The basic needs of a retired Greyhound are the same as for any dog as a pet.
The height of fencing and security, however, are especially important for Greyhounds, as they can jump six feet when motivated, though they are usually too lazy! Your dog will need several walks a day depending on whether he/she has access to your garden for toiletting.
We tend to find it more difficult to to re-home a male dog. People are under the impression that a bitch would be more affectionate but, in fact, a Greyhound male can be as loving and gentle as any female.
It is a sad fact that some dogs wait for up to two years to be re-homed mainly due to the misconception that they require lots of excercise, however they are more likely to prefer to be curled up on your sofa!
You may find that they sleep most of the day, running around can be just far too energetic!!
They love company and will follow you around the house from room to room, just because they like to be close and always have you in sight. You will always have a gentle, loving companion with a Greyhound.
